BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Campbell cross country will travel to Conway, S.C. on Saturday, sampling its conference championship course at the Coastal Carolina Invitational / Big South Preview.
The men's race, an 8K, will kick the day off at 8:30 a.m., and will be followed by the women's 5K contest at 9:15 a.m. at the Quail Creek Golf Club. The 2011 Big South Cross Country Championships will be held at the same course on Oct. 29.
Campbell, Coastal Carolina, CCU alumni, Concord (W.Va.), High Point, Liberty, Methodist, Presbyterian, Radford, The Citadel and Wingate will be the competing teams in the men's race. On the women's side, Campbell, Coastal Carolina, Concord (W.Va.), Duke, High Point, Liberty, Methodist, Myrtle Beach TFC, Presbyterian, Radford and Wingate will take part in the event.
Last time out, CU junior DeLohnni Nicol-Samuel won the men's race at the UNC Wilmington Seahawk Invitational, earning Big South Runner of the Week honors in the process.
The Brandon, Manitoba native posted a personal record 5K time of 15:24.40 on Friday in the Port City, topping his previous best by eight seconds. Nicol-Samuel beat out UNC Wilmington's Wil Zahorodny, who checked in with a 15:35.40. The Nicol-Samuel win came a week after Zahorodny took top honors at the Campbell Invitational, when the CU junior finished runner-up.
The Campbell men took second in the team standings of the race, while the women claimed the team title in their bracket at UNCW.
Senior Rachel Deline also has an Individual win in the early going of 2011, picking up the victory at the Campbell Invitational. Deline, meanwhile, finished second overall at UNCW.
After the CCU meet, the Camels will take a near two week break before heading to the Charlotte Invitational on Friday, Sep. 30.
