ROCK HILL, S.C. - Terence Attema (Smithville, Ontario) continued his strong start to the 2010 season by finishing second at the Asics-Winthrop Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 18. Attema set a new personal best for an 8K race by 9 seconds with a time of 24:43.
The Campbell Senior finished four seconds behind the winner, Sean Soderman, of Appalachian State. Appalachian State also ran away with the team title.
As a team, the Campbell Men finished 5th out of 9 Division 1 Teams. Freshman Morgan Timiney (Kalamazoo, Mich.) had a finishing time of 26:17, good enough for 25th. Sophomore DeLohnni Nicol-Samuel (Brandon, Manitoba) finished 28th, just one second behind his teammate.
Campbell had other freshmen contributions as well. Chris Schulist (Holland, Mich.) came in 42nd with a time of 26:56 for CU. Clayton Woll (Howell, Mich.) came in with a time of 27:51 to finish 67th for the Camels.
The Campbell Women had a strong team performance, finishing 4th out of 10 Division 1 Teams. South Carolina won the team title, placing 4 runners in the top 12.
Junior Rachel Deline (Belleville, Ontario) had a solid 19th place finish with a time of 18:58 to pace the CU Women. Jackie Kirby, of Mount Olive, won the race with a time of 17:40.
Like the men, the women's side had strong freshman performances. Samantha Robbins (London, Ontario) came in 27th with a time of 19:19. Ashley Matthews (Raleigh) finished 4 seconds behind Robbins and placed 32nd.
Sophomore Laura Verschuren (Guelph, Ontario) had a 40th place finish with a time of 19:45. Senior Baillie Locke (Wiarton, Ontario) finished 44th with a time of 19:52 for Campbell.
The Camels are in action again on Saturday, Oct. 2 at the George Mason Patriot Invitational in Leesburg, Va. Start time is slated for 9 a.m.
