Campbell Teams Compete at Great American Cross Country Festival
BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- The Campbell University men's and women's
cross country teams competed Friday night at the Great American
Cross Country Festival held at McAlpine Greenway Park. The men's team finished
15th out of 21 teams, while the women were
13th of 22 squads.
Georgetown University
won the men's team and individual titles. David Rodriguez won the 8K race with a
time of 24:18.3. On the
women's side, Brigham Young University won the team crown, while
Sylvia Chelimo of Gardner-Webb College was the individual champ
with a time of 16:55.7 in the 5K run.
Junior Ryan Richmond
and sophomore Heather Lee were the top Camel runners for the third
week in a row. Richmond led
the men's squad with a time of 25:30.3 (36th), and Lee
finished the course in 18:41.4 (45th).
The other CU men's
runners included freshman Justin Lambert-Belanger (26:13.3,
56th), senior Billy McGlaughon (26:30.0,
61st), sophomore Hugh Ferry (26:42.6, 73rd)
and freshman Jeremaine Hood (30:14.3, 136th).
After Lee, the other Camels to
contribute to the women's team score were senior Susie Welty
(18:46.5, 51st), Lisa Lee (19:09.5, 72nd),
Renee Acker (20:09.5, 105th), and Natalie Lewis
(20:17.5, 111th).
The Camels host the fourth annual Campbell European Invitational
next Saturday morning at the CU Cross Country Course. The event starts with a fun run at
8:00 am, followed by the men's race at 9:00 am and the women's
event at 10:00 am. [Results ]
