Volleyball Downs Morgan State 3-0, Reaves Named All-Tournament

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-Jordan Reaves' 10 kills and 10 digs fueled Campbell to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-22) win over Morgan State in the Camels' final match of the Charlotte Hilton University 49er Invitational.

The Camels improve to 4-7 on the season, while Morgan State falls to 3-8 overall.

Reaves, a junior outside hitter, collected her third double-double in four outings, and her fourth overall this season on the way to all-tournament honors. The Holly Springs, N.C. native averaged 3.10 kills and 2.70 digs per set for the tournament, also picking up a double-double against Charlotte on Friday. It is the second all-tournament honor of the season for Reaves, who also took accolades at the NC Central Hilton RTP Tournament.

Senior middle blocker Annie Kobeski followed with nine kills, five blocks and four digs in the win. Kobeski has collected at least three blocks in each of her last five matches, posting six against Furman and five against UNC Wilmington.

Freshman Nangeeshie Pabon led the Bears with a match-high 15 kills, adding four digs and two blocks. Erin Cox and Natalie Chefeh each tallied two aces, gathering nine and eight digs, respectively. Cox added seven kills, while Chefeh totaled 31 aces. Junior Kylin Ellison registered 13 digs.

Despite five kills from Pabon in the first set, the Bears could not top the Camels, who registered a balanced attack with three kills apiece from Reaves and junior Kelsey Marek. Wilson dished out 10 assists in the set, pacing the Camels to a 25-21 win.

In the second CU converted 14 of 35 attempts with just four errors on the way to the 25-22 win. Tied at eight, Kobeski blasted one of her six kills in the frame to spark a 12-7 run. Morgan State, however, reeled off a 7-2 run of its own to knot the match at 22-all. Two-straight kills from Reaves followed by a Bear error, however, sealed the win for the Camels.

Reaves added another four kills for the Camels in the third and final set, pacing Campbell to the 25-22 win to clinch the match, 3-0. Pabon, meanwhile, added another six scores for Morgan State, but the rest of the Bears posted only five kills with four errors in the set. Campbell's Brooke Kelley punched through four of her five service aces in the set, including three in a row on the eighth, ninth and 10th Campbell points.

Joining Reaves on the all-tournament team were Ashley Johnson (Morgan State), Bianca Rouse (Charlotte), Sheri Davis (Charlotte), Alexis Shaffer (Furman) and Natalie Braun (Furman). Furman's Chandler Ambrester took home MVP honors, leading the Paladins to the tournament title and a perfect 3-0 record on the weekend.
