BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Campbell makes its 2011 home debut on Tuesday, hosting UNC Wilmington at 7 p.m. inside the Pope Center.
The Camels are 3-5 in the early going, coming off a 1-3 showing at the NC State Raleigh Midtown Classic over the weekend. Campbell dropped matches to Wisconsin, Western Carolina and the host Wolfpack while picking up a forfeit win over North Carolina A&T.
Junior outside hitter Jordan Reaves leads the Camels at 2.27 kills and 2.41 digs per set. Junior Kelsey Marek adds 1.50 kills a frame with a .340 hitting percentage, while freshman Mallorie Cubillos tacks on a team-best 2.81 digs per set.
The Seahawks are an even 3-3 on the season after going 2-1 in the George Washington Invitational over the weekend. UNCW defeated Central Connecticut State and NC Central on Saturday, but fell 3-0 to GWU in the opener on Friday.
UNCW is paced by sophomore right side Christi Laite's 3.50 kills, 1.82 digs and 0.95 blocks per set while freshman Sarah Fitzgerald adds 2.12 kills a set. Senior setter Kesley records 7.18 assists and sophomore defensive specialist Haley Collins posts 4.27 digs per set. McKenzie Keightley and Siera Young, meanwhile, combine for 2.73 blocks per frame for the Seahawks.
Campbell trails the all-time series with the Seahawks 26-14. UNCW has won the last three meetings with the Camels, with the last CU win coming in 2006.
Next up for the Camels will be the Charlotte Invitational on Sep. 9-10. Campbell will face Furman and Morgan State in addition to the 49ers.
