Volleyball Edges Hampton, 3-2

DURHAM, N.C.-Campbell middles Kelsey Marek and Annie Kobeski combined for 19 kills without an error as the Camels edged Hampton 3-2 (15-25, 25-18, 25-18, 17-25, 15-6) at the NC Central Hilton RTP Tournament inside McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium.

Campbell moves to 2-1 on the season, while Hampton falls to 0-2.

Marek, a junior from Taylor, Texas, collected 11 kills on 16 swings for a .688 percentage, adding two blocks. A senior from Palm Beach, Fla., Kobeski tallied eight kills and three blocks in the win. Sophomore setter Heather Wilson registered a career-high 44 assists with six digs and four blocks, while Jordan Reaves posted eight kills and nine digs.

Freshman libero Mallorie Cubillos grabbed 11 digs, with fellow rookie Brooke Kelley collecting seven kills.

Leading Hampton was junior middle Ornela Cadavid with 12 kills on 16 attempts without an error. Mianna Armstrong added a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs, while Sheileen Pagan added 10 scores and nine digs. Senior setter Lihi Elkayam chipped in 24 assists.

The Camels will play Elon at 3 p.m., concluding play in the NCCU Hilton RTP Tournament.
