Elon Tops Volleyball, 3-0

DURHAM, N.C.-Elon's Carolina Lemke and Chanelle Smith combined for 25 kills, pacing Elon to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-19) win over Campbell in the final match for both squads in the NC Central Hilton RTP Tournament Saturday in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium.

Elon improved to 4-0 on the season, while the Camels fall to 2-2. The Phoenix clinched the tournament title with the perfect weekend. Junior outside hitter Jordan Reaves was named all-tournament after averaging 2.36 kills, 2.57 digs and 0.57 blocks per set. Elon's Carly Ledbetter was named MVP. Teammate Caroline Lemke also made all-tournament, along with Hampton's Mianna Armstrong, Florida Gulf Coast's Brittany Muse, NCCU's Dayanna Arrufat and Jzima-Malaki Kalao.

Lemke, a senior outside, posted 13 kills on 25 errorless attempts, while Smith tallied 12 kills and 12 digs. Senior setter Megan McMahon added 38 assists and 11 digs. Junior defensive specialist Ali Deatsch registered a match-high 17 digs in the win.

Leading the Camels was junior outside hitter Jordan Reaves with 12 kills and 15 digs. The Holly Springs, N.C. native added four blocks in the loss. Freshman libero Mallorie Cubillos tacked on 13 digs and sophomore setter Heather Wilson notched 14 assists. Annie Kobeski also posted four aces for the Camels.

The Phoenix started the opening set with a 13-3 spurt and took a 25-12 win behind a .378 team hitting percentage and six kills from Smith.

Campbell notched a quick start in the second frame, scoring the set's first four points before Elon evened the game at 8-all. Still tied at 13-apiece, the Phoenix reeled off a 10-2 streak and claimed a 25-20 win.

The Camels again pushed out to an early lead in the third, taking an 8-3 advantage on a Kobeski service ace. Elon, however, tied the set at 11 and never looked back, doubling up the Camels with a 22-11 run to clinch the match.

The Camels will return to action next weekend, against joining tournament play at North Carolina State. Campbell will face Wisconsin, Western Carolina and North Carolina A&T in addition to the Wolfpack.
