Campbell Volleyball Improves to 1-1 in TAAC Play Following 3-0 Sweep of Mercer

BUIES CREEK, N.C. The Campbell University volleyball team
improved to 8-11 overall, 1-1 in Trans America Athletic Conference
play following a 3-0 sweep of Mercer University tonight in Carter
Gym.
The Bears fell to 4-14, 0-1 in the league following the 15-2,
15-10, 15-11 loss.
Kara Lewis led the Camels with 14 kills and a .480 hitting
percentage. She also
tallied seven digs and two block solos, while Crystal Brim
contributed 10 digs.
Tinsley Gordon added nine kills and four total blocks. Pam Hughes set 28 assists.
For the Bears, Erin Jalbert led the squad with nine kills,
while Amy Schreiber had a match-high 15 digs. Bonnie Sample recorded 25 assists.
As a team, the Camels hit .441 (17K, 2E, 34TA) in the first
game en-route to the 15-2 win. In the second, the Bears took their
only lead (4-3) of the match following three straight service aces
by Jessica Childress.
However, the Camels regained control of the set and went on to the
15-11 victory.
CU then jumped to an early 9-0 start in game three before
giving up the first point to Mercer. The Camels scored two more times and
then stalled at 11 points, allowing the Bears to score eight
unanswered points. The
Bears, who only hit .062 on the night, pulled within one at 12-11,
but Campbell rallied to win the game 15-11 for the sweep.
The Camels return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at UNC
Greensboro. The match is
scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.
