Women’s Tennis Welcomes UNC Asheville on Friday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell returns to the James Nisbet Tennis Center following a three-game road trip on Friday with a 1:30 p.m. match against UNC Asheville. The Camels complete the road swing on Thursday at Gardner-Webb, a match that has been postponed several times due to rain.

The match is between the fifth- and sixth-place teams in the Big South standings with Campbell owning a 3-2 mark and UNCA carrying a 2-3 record in league contests.

At home, Campbell has posted a 2-1 mark and the only loss coming outside the conference to in-state foe Appalachian State, 5-2.

Freshman Ana Maria Ortiz (Betera, Spain) has a team-best two-match win streak coming into the match with the Bulldogs. The trio of junior Karolina Chernaya (Tshkent, Uzbekistan), sophomore Tamara Stanic (Budva, Montenegro) and Ortiz has accounted for 25 of 35 singles points on the season.

The Camels have posted a 16-14 mark in the doubles' competition as the tandems have gelled as the season has progressed. The pairing of Chernaya/Stanic have registered a 4-2 mark at No. 1 to pace the squad.

UNCA is led in singles play by Ericka Rivero with a 10-5 overall and 4-1 Big South mark. Hamel and Rivero at No. 2 in doubles play have posted an impressive 6-4 mark for the Bulldogs.

Campbell will continue a two-match home stand on Apr. 2 against Winthrop with the first serve set for 1:30 p.m.
