DURHAM, N.C. – The Campbell women's tennis team fell on Saturday afternoon, 4-3, at N.C. Central. Sophomore Tamara Stanic (Budva, Montenegro) and Caroline Lindsey (Reidsville, N.C.) notched victories in the single competition.

For the first time this year, the Camels started off on the right foot by securing the doubles point. Lauren Vaughn (Arden, N.C.) and Kirsten Renz (Greensboro, N.C.) downed Julia Aquilar and Brianna Gatson quickly at No. 3, 8-1.

N.C. Central tied it up at one-all, when Ekaterina Nicrasova and Aissa Muamba defeated freshman Ana Maria Ortiz (Betera, Spain) and senior Lourdes Ros (Greensboro, N.C.) in the second slot. The overall point went to Campbell as junior Natasha Afridi (Tokyo, Japan) and Stanic triumphed over Olesya Palko and Rebecca Wood.

As the first two singles matches ended, the Camels held on to a 2-1 advantage in the match. Lindsey made quick work of Anquilar with a 6-1, 6-0 straight-set victory at No. 6. Earning a tally at No. 3 was Muamba for NCCU.

Campbell took a 3-1 lead following a 6-1, 7-5 win for Stanic over Palko. The Camels needed to take just one more point to capture the match.

At No. 2 and No. 4, N.C. Central took the first frame in each contest before Ros and Vaughn, respectively, battled back to sent it to a decisive third. The Eagles would end up taking both contests to knot the match at 3-3.

At No. 3, Ros took the first set 7-5 over Wood before falling in the second by a close 6-3 score. The pair battled for each point, but ultimately Wood secured a 6-3 victory to help NCCU post a 4-3 victory.

Campbell returns to the court on Saturday at UNC Wilimington with the first serve slated for 1:30 p.m.
