BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Sophomore Tamara Stanic (Budva, Montenegro), freshman Ana Maria Ortiz (Betera, Spain) and Ewa Telenga (Gliwice, Poland) picked up singles victories for the Campbell women's tennis team, but Charlotte came out on top, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.

Charlotte (3-1) opened up the day with a victory in doubles competition by taking the No. 1 and No. 3 slots over Campbell (1-3).

In singles action, the 49ers clinched the match through their depth with wins over Lourdes Ros (Greensboro, N.C.), Kirsten Renz (Greensboro, N.C.) and Lauren Vaughn (Arden, N.C.) in the final three positions.

With Ortiz, 7-6 (5), and Telenga, 6-4, securing first-set victories at the top of the order, the Camels continued to fight as Stanic came back to force a third set with a win in the tiebreaker, 7-5, against Alexanda Zinn at No. 1. Telenga finished off Lisa Grosselius in a tiebreaker, 7-5, to earn the first point for Campbell at No. 3.

After Nutsuko Takayangi registered a 6-4 win at No. 2 to force a decisive frame, Ortiz took the super tiebreaker, 11-9. The final point for the Camels came from Stanic, who triumphed with a 10-8 score in the super tiebreaker.

Campbell returns to the courts on Feb. 9 at UNC Greensboro with the first server set for noon.
