BUIES CREEK – Tamara Stanic has been selected as this week's Big South Conference Crons Brand Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. The Budva, Montenegro native finished the regular season at 11-7 in singles play, and 10-6 in doubles play.
Stanic finished 2-0 in singles this past week playing in the number three position. She picked up a straight set victory over Presbyterian's Greer Ransom (6-0, 6-2) and a hard fought three set victory over Charlotte's Natsuko Takayanagi, (6-4, 5-7, 10-5). Stanic was one of two Camels to finish undefeated during these stretch of matches.
In doubles play, Stanic and partner Katya Yegoreychenko finished 1-1 this past week in the number two spot. The duo picked up a win over Lindsay Krause and Cara Caruso of Presbyterian (8-4).
Stanic has helped the Camels to an 11-7 overall record and a 2-6 record in Big South Conference play following their 5-2 win over Charlotte this past Friday. Campbell is currently riding a two match winning streak, and has earned the seven seed in this weekend's Big South Tennis Championships.
This is the first career conference freshman of the week selection for Stanic, and the first for the Camels this season. Stanic was also named conference player of the week on February 28.
Stanic and the rest of the Camels return to the courts Thursday, April 19 as they travel to Asheville, N.C. for the Big South Women's Tennis Championships. Campbell will take on second seeded Charleston Southern at 1:30 pm.
