Women’s Tennis Wins Fifth Straight; Knocks off Jacksonville 6-1

Jacksonville, Fla. – The Campbell University tennis team won its fifth straight match Saturday afternoon by defeating Jacksonville 6-1. The Camels (8-2, 1-1) picked up victories in five singles matches and took the doubles point.

Karolina Chernaya improved to 7-3 in singles play this season after knocking off Aline Staudt in the one spot (6-4, 6-2). Reigning Big South Player of the Week Tamara Stanic defeated Matalia Meliebeu in the two spot (6-1, 2-6, 7-6(4)) to improve to 7-3 in singles this season.

Natasha Afridi and Katya Yegoreychenko picked up wins in the three and five spots, while Anais Gomar defeated Veronique Spencer in the six spot (6-2, 6-3).  

The Camels swept all three doubles matches to capture the doubles point. Borislava Nikolova and Karolina Chernaya defeated Staudt and Djessika Berezza 8-6 in the one spot.

The Camels will return to the courts Monday, March 5 as they travel to take on South Carolina State.
