Tamara Stanic Named Big South Player of the Week

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Freshman Tamara Stanic has been selected as this week's Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. The Budva, Montenegro native is 6-3 in singles play, and 5-2 in doubles play this season.

Stanic finished 3-0 in singles this past week playing in the number two position. She picked up straight set victories over East Carolina's Renata Bakieva (7-5, 6-3), USC Upstate's Julie Bell (6-4, 6-1), and UNC Asheville's Emily McNall (6-1, 6-1). Stanic was the only Camel to finish undefeated during these stretch of matches.

In doubles play, Stanic and partner Katya Yegoreychenko finished 2-1 this past week in the number two spot. The duo picked up wins over Natalie Collins and Dana Gray of East Carolina (8-4), and Maria Tonani and Hannah Al-Sakati of USC Upstate (8-5).

Stanic has helped the Camels to a 7-2 overall record and a 1-1 record in Big South Conference play following their 5-2 win over UNC Asheville this past Saturday. Campbell is currently riding a four match winning streak, and is in the middle of its best nine match start since 2008.

This is the first career conference player of the week selection for Stanic, and the first for the Camels this season. Stanic is the fifth Campbell player to earn conference player of the week honors in the past four seasons.

Stanic and the rest of the Camels will compete for their fifth straight win Saturday, Mach 3 as they travel to take on Jacksonville. Match time is set for 2:00 pm.
