Women’s Tennis Picked Fifth in Big South Preseason Poll

Charlotte, N.C. – The Campbell University women's tennis team was tabbed to finish fifth in the annual Big South Conference preseason poll, the conference announced Wednesday. The poll was voted on by the league coaches, and the Camels received 46 points, eight points behind fourth place selection Liberty. This is the Camels first season back in the Big South since 1994.

Defending conference champion Winthrop was predicted to finish first with seven first place votes and 79 total points, 16 ahead of second place Coastal Carolina. Charleston Southern was tabbed to finish third by receiving 62 points, and Liberty and Campbell rounded out the top five. CU received eight second place points, 12 fourth place points, and 15 fifth place points. The points were based on a weighted system, with first-place votes receiving eight points, followed by seven points for second-place and so on.

Campbell opens its season Friday, January 20 against Drexel at the VCU 4-1 invitational in Richmond, Va. The Camels host NC Central February 4 in their home opener at 2:00 pm, and their Big South opener will take place February 17 at Winthrop.
