ELON, N.C. – Karolina Chernaya and Katya Yegoreychenko highlighted Campbell's efforts at the Elon Fall Invitational by reaching the semifinals of the A-1 doubles bracket. Chernaya, Anais Gomar, and Lourdes Ros led the way in singles play by advancing to the quarterfinals of their respective brackets.
Chernaya and Yegoreychenko knocked off Presbyterian's Paige Oelke and Courtney Gardnier (8-3) in quarterfinals action on Friday. In the semifinals, the duo was denied their first trip to the finals as a doubles team by Paola Garrido and Alexis Pickett of Georgia Southern (8-6).
In singles action, Chernaya knocked off Pickett of GSU in the first round of the A-1 singles flight (6-1, 6-1). Zoe Hamel of UNC Asheville defeated Chernaya in the quarterfinals (4-6, 5-7). The Uzbekistan native is now 4-4 in the fall season.
Gomar reached the quarterfinals of the A-3 singles bracket. The Lleida, Spain native defeated Azeib Niguta of NC A&T 6-4, 6-0 in the round of 16 on Friday.
Junior Lourdes Ros earned a spot in the quarterfinals of the B-1 singles bracket by knocking off Nianna Henry of NC A&T in the first round (6-0, 6-1). Ros improved to 4-4 in singles play for the fall season.
The Camels continue their fall season October 20 as they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. for the ITA Reionals.
