WINSTON–SALEM, N.C. – The Campbell University women's tennis team picked up three top ten finishes in singles and doubles play this weekend at the Wake Forest Invitational. Karolina Chernaya took home seventh place in the A singles bracket, Lourdes Ros won eighth place in the F singles bracket, and the duo of Ros and Anais Gomar earned tenth place in the C doubles bracket.
Chernaya began her tournament on Friday by defeating Melis Tanik of West Virginia (6-3, 6-3). The Tashkent, Uzbekistan native suffered a three set loss to four seeded Dominika Zaparazna of Marshall (6-4, 6-7, 5-7) on Saturday. On Sunday, Chernaya was defeated by Caryssa Peretz of Virginia (2-6, 4-6) but still earned seventh place in the bracket.
After suffering a tough first round loss in the F singles bracket, Ros was able to bounce back and pick up two victories in the consolation round to earn an eight place finish in the bracket. The Greensboro native knocked off Kaylyn Smialek of Elon (6-2, 6-2) on Saturday and then took down Sara Tegner of Radford on Sunday (4-6, 6-0, 10-1).
In the C doubles bracket Ros and Gomar took a first round loss but came back and earned a victory in the consolation round over Briana Berne and Viviana Stavreva of Elon (8-4). The duo lost the eight place match to Stefanie Villajuan and Gabrielle Duncan (4-8) but still finished tenth in the bracket.
Campbell returns to the courts next weekend, October 7, at the Elon Fall Invitational.
