Ormsby garners Big South All-Conference honors

BUIES CREEK- Sophomore Payton Ormsby has been named to the 2014 Big South Preseason All-Conference Second Team, as announced by College Sports Madness on Wednesday.

"I'm just looking forward to the season," Ormsby said. "I think we're coming in as underdogs and we have a lot to prove. We want to prove it to ourselves and to the rest of the conference."

The Chesapeake, Va., native led the team with six goals and 13 points as a freshman last season and ranked third on the team with 26 shots. Ormsby started 13 matches and was one of only seven players to appear in all 18 matches for the Camels.

"I just try to step up and help my team out," she said. "We try to stay after a lot and work on finishing. I just want to come in with a bunch of intensity, and come in and do my job as well as I can for my team.

"I want to score goals, get assists and help my team to the best of my ability, and get to November 9 looking for that championship."

The Camels will take on USC Upstate on Sunday in Spartanburg, S.C., for its first of three preseason matches; kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Campbell will travel to Francis Marion on Aug. 16 and host Mount Olive at Eakes Athletic Complex Aug. 18 to round out the 2014 preseason; both matches are slated to begin at 7 p.m.
