Buies Creek, N.C. - Coming off a thrilling overtime victory at home last week, the Fighting Camels will take on the Patriots of Francis Marion University Friday.
The Camels hold a 1-0-0 record after they won their season opener against East Carolina 2-1 in extra time. Senior Taylor Brown scored a goal off a free kick in regulation and sophomore Ashley Clark knocked in the golden goal to clinch the win for Campbell. Their goals and play for the entire game were recognized by the Big South Conference as Brown was named Defensive Player of the Week and Clark the Offensive Player of the Week.
"We had a couple of players I was really pleased with," said head coach Todd Clark. "Obviously Ashley Clark scoring the game-winning goal...and I'm excited she's continued on the pace (of 2011). Taylor Brown also had a fantastic year last year and started again right away. We were pretty confident when she stepped up to the ball that good things might happen."
Campbell will face Francis Marion (1-1-0) Friday in the fifth all-time meeting between the teams. The series is tied 2-2, after the Camels beat the Patriots 3-0 in 2011.
The Patriots, an NCAA I Independent school, have played two Big South teams, losing to Coastal Carolina and beating Presbyterian. Like Campbell, Francis Marion has already played extra minutes after a tied score, going into double overtime against Presbyterian. Elizabeth Asare scored the game-winning goal with 7.5 seconds left to lift the Patriots to a 4-3 win.
The match will begin Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the Eakes Athletic Complex.
