Women's Soccer Selected First in Big South, Opens Season Friday against East Carolina
Campbell-ECU Game Preview Video
Picked to finish first in the Big South by the conference head coaches and TopDrawerSoccer.com, the Fighting Camels kick off regular season play Friday at 7:00 p.m. against East Carolina at Eakes Athletic Complex.
The Fighting Camels received four first-place votes and 132 of a possible 144 points in Big South voting. In 2011, Campbell finished third in the regular season and was the Big South Championship runner-up. The team finished 7-1-2 in the regular season and 15-5-2 overall, the most wins for the team since 1995.
Writers at the Elite Soccer News Network, who provide TopDrawerSoccer.com with content, chose Campbell to finish atop the Big South. The writers cited "Todd Clark's Camels return freshman goalscoring sensation Ashley Clark, who had 11 tallies in 2011. Taylor Brown and Cissy Nitz are other key performers."
Coming off a loss in exhibition play at Appalachian State, Campbell looks to bounce back in their regular season and home opening game.
The Eakes Athletic Complex gates will open at 6:00 p.m. for the 7:00 p.m. start. Entry is free for Campbell students, faculty and children under 12 years of age, and the cost for all others is $5.
