Thursday night: Campbell returns to the Eakes Athletic Complex tonight, hosting the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville in a Big South Conference contest.
Campbell: The Camels (8-3, 2-0 BSC) opened conference play with back-to-back wins over Gardner-Webb and Winthrop last week. The Camels received a hat trick from Pirjo Leppikangas in last Thursday's BSC opener.
UNC Asheville: The Bulldogs (3-9, 2-1 BSC) are coming off a 3-0 victory over Presbyterian on Tuesday night. UNCA also has a 3-1 conference win over VMI and a 5-1 triumph over South Carolina State on its resume.
Campbell vs. UNC Asheville History: The Camels and Bulldogs have met six times, with UNCA holding a 4-2-0 advantage. The last meeting between the two teams came in 2006, Todd Clark's first season at the helm of the Camel program. The Bulldogs took a 2-0 victory in the season finale that year.
Next Up: Campbell will embark on a three-game Big South road trip after tonight. The Camels travel to Clinton, S.C. to take on Presbyterian on Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. before visiting High Point and Liberty next week. UNC Asheville returns home to face Coastal Carolina next Thursday.
Big South AOTW honors: Pirjo Leppikangas (Helsinki, Finland) was named the BSC Attacker of the Week for her standout performance during last week's games. The midfielder notched the program's first hat trick since 1998, when Bonnie Trader scored three goals against Charleston Southern. Following up the hat trick, Leppikangas scored the game-winning goal at Winthrop (her second of the week), helping propel the Camels to a 4-1 victory in Rock Hill, S.C. Leppikangas is tied with Ashley Clark (Cary, N.C.) for the conference lead in points scored with 17 points. Leppikangas joins Clark as Camels who have been recognized by the BSC this season with the weekly honor.
