BUIES CREEK - Campbell University freshman forward Ashley Clark (Cary, N.C.) has been named the Big South's Attacker of the Week for the second time this season. Clark also won the honor during the season's first week of play.
Clark netted two goals during the week, including a game-winning score, as Campbell picked up wins over Valparaiso and IUPUI last week at the Crusader Classic. Against Valparaiso on Sept. 23, Clark fueled a Campbell comeback as she scored a goal just seconds into the second half to propel Campbell to the 3-2 win over the Crusaders.
Two days later, Clark kicked in the eventual game-winning goal as she converted a blast from the top of the box to help give Campbell the 2-1 win. For her efforts on the weekend, Clark was named to the Crusader Classic All-Tournament team. The Panther Creek High School product now has six goals and two assists thus far in 2011.
"I think the fact that Ashley has earned the award twice speaks for itself and we are very proud of her," head coach Todd Clark said about Clark. "She has been one of several players who have scored important goals for us this season and the fact that we can count on so many players has strengthened our team from previous seasons while her ability to strike at opportunistic times has really been a great boost to our team."
Clark and her teammates will enter Big South Conference play this week. The Camels welcome Gardner-Webb to "The Creek" on Thursday night for the conference opener. First kick is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CU then travels to Rock Hill, S.C. on Saturday to take on the Winthrop Eagles at 7:00 p.m.
