Cupo’s Goal Secures Tie For Lady Camels at Georgia State

ATLANTA, GA. – Campbell and Georgia State played to a 1-1 draw in a battle of Trans America Athletic Conference women's soccer foes on Saturday afternoon at Panthersville.
With the tie, Georgia State’s record now stands at 4-7-1, while Campbell's record is 2-5-1. The match marked Campbell’s third-consecutive overtime outing and also ended a five game losing streak, while the last three setbacks were decided by one goal.
After 73 minutes of scoreless soccer, Georgia State's Chandra Yorgason settled a Micki Stone pass and scored the go-ahead goal from 18 yards out.
Just 50 seconds later, Campbell answered, as an Erika Cupo shot slipped just out of the reach of Lady Panther goalkeeper Jennifer Espinal. The goal was the first in a Camel uniform for Cupo, who transferred from Tennessee-Chattanooga a year ago.
For the match the Lady Panthers outshot the Fighting Camels 25-6, including a 7-2 advantage in overtime.
Campbell keeper Jamie Olson recorded a career-high 12 saves in the nets, a mark that stands eighth on the CU all-time single game saves listing.
While Campbell stands 0-2-1 in the TAAC, four of the team's final six league games will be played at home in Buies Creek, beginning with Thursday's 7:00 p.m. contest vs. Troy State.
