Camels host nationally-ranked Northwestern and ACC foe North Carolina in Saturday duals

BUIES CREEK – Campbell welcomes #22 Northwestern and North Carolina to Gilbert Craig Gore Arena on Saturday for a wrestling tri-match. The Wildcats and Tar Heels will get things underway at 4:30 p.m. The Fighting Camels will then take on Northwestern at 6:15 p.m. before the nightcap against UNC at approximately 8 p.m.

Campbell enters Saturday with an 11-14 overall record and a 3-2 mark in the Southern Conference after wins last weekend over Gardner-Webb and Millersville (Pa.).

Northwestern enters Saturday's duals at 8-4 overall, coming off a 24-18 win over Northern Illinois on Feb. 3. Campbell also wrestled NIU earlier this season, dropping a 22-14 decision at the Hoosier Duals in Bloomington, Ind. on Nov. 26.

The Wildcats won their season opener over #14 Stanford 27-8 and the team's four losses are all against programs ranked in the top-10 in the country (#1 Penn State, #4 Iowa, #7 Michigan and #8 Illinois). Northwestern concludes the regular season on Feb. 17 against Indiana.

NU has four wrestlers currently in the InterMat national rankings, led by Jason Welch, who is undefeated at 18-0 and ranked second nationally at 157 pounds.. 125-pounder Levi Mele is currently tenth-ranked in his weight class. Lee Munster is 13th at 174 pounds and Mike McMullan is #12 in the heavyweight division.

North Carolina (3-13 overall) shares six common opponents with Campbell thus far, with each team also scheduled to wrestle The Citadel this season. Both team have defeated Duke, with UNC taking a 30-5 victory on Jan. 9. UNC defeated NC State 20-18 in its last outing on the mat and has lost to Navy (25-12), Virginia Tech (29-12), Virginia (24-10) and Rutgers (33-9) this season.

Evan Henderson leads the Tar Heels with a 23-9 mark at 141 pounds. Thomas Ferguson holds a 16-11 individual mark in the 184 pound weight class.
