Campbell defeats Gardner-Webb and Millersville in Saturday duals
Boiling Springs, N.C. – Campbell took a thrilling 17-16 Southern Conference road victory at Gardner-Webb, earning the tiebreaking point after finishing with a 70-67 advantage in total points. The Fighting Camels move to 3-2 in SoCon competition with one conference match remaining against The Citadel.
CU took five of the first seven matches to jump out to a 16-7 lead over the Runnin' Bulldogs. GWU then took the last three bouts to force the match to the tiebreaker. Joey Rizzolino earned a 15-4 major decision win over Robert Golde to put the Camels ahead after the match's second bout. Decision wins from Jordan Tolbert and Mark Hartenstine pushed the Camel advantage to 10-3 after the 149-pound bout.
Ryan Krecker took a 12-8 decision in the 165-pound bout and James Cook captured his 18th individual win with a 6-0 decision at 174 pounds to round out the Camel scoring. GWU used come-from-behind wins in the match's final two bouts to tie the team score at 16-16.
With each team having the same number of wins and falls, the tiebreaker came down to total points, where Campbell held the three-point advantage.

Campbell freshman Daniel Luty picked up his first collegiate victory and Campbell earned four pins as the Camels prevailed 39-9 over Millersville. CU improves to 11-14 overall and has the most dual match wins since the 1997-98 squad finished with 12 victories.
The match began with Tanner Bidelspach earning a forfeit win to give the Camels an early 6-0 lead. Tolbert earned a 4-2 decision win at 141 pounds before Hartenstine pinned Steve Hess in 2:38. Luty then picked up his first win in a 3-2 decision over Zac Wawryzyniak-Bush at 157 pounds.
After Paul Duggan's 6-0 decision win at 165 pounds, Campbell took three consecutive pins (Cook at 174 pounds, Matt Cox at 184 pounds and Weakley at 197 pounds). Weakley earned his seventh pin of the season to move to 23-8 individually. Cox took his first victory of the season with his 44-second pin.
Campbell will return to action Saturday night as the Camels welcome Big 10 power Northwestern and ACC foe North Carolina to Gilbert Craig Gore Arena in Buies Creek. CU is scheduled to wrestle Northwestern at 6:15 p.m., followed by a matchup with the Tar Heels.
