Wrestling hosts ACC member Duke on Thursday evening

BUIES CREEK – Campbell will welcome ACC member Duke to Gilbert Craig Gore Arena and the Pope Convocation Center on Thursday evening, hosting the Blue Devils in a 7 p.m. dual match. Duke enters the match 0-4 overall in dual matches, 0-3 in the ACC. Campbell is 8-12 overall and currently 2-2 in the Southern Conference.

Duke has fallen to The Citadel 28-14, North Carolina 30-5, Virginia 39-3 and Virginia Tech 30-6. Campbell faced the Cavaliers and Hokies during opening day on Nov. 5, falling to Virginia 34-12 and Virginia Tech 31-12. The Camels will also face The Citadel and North Carolina in February.

Redshirt senior John Weakley (Cleveland, Ohio), redshirt sophomore Nick Rex (Lakeland, Fla.) and redshirt freshmen James Cook (Madera, Calif.) and Mark Hartenstine (Easton, Penn.) have all posted at least 14 individual wins for the Camels.

Weakley is 19-7 this season with six pins, one tech and three major decisions to his credit. Cook has a 15-5 mark with two pins and three major decisions. Rex is 15-9 with one tech fall and five major decisions, while Hartenstine carries a 14-7 record with two pins, two tech falls and four major decisions.

The team has already posted more dual match victories (eight) than any CU team since the 1997-98 squad went 12-8.

Freshmen Ryan Krecker (Nazareth, Penn.) and Joe Nolan (Jackson, N.J.) have also posted double digit win totals during their rookie campaigns in Buies Creek, making an immediate impact on the Camel program.

Campbell will be looking for its second victory in program history over the Blue Devils, as Duke holds a 33-3 advantage in the series. The Fighting Camels last series win came in a 19-18 home victory at Duke in the 2001-02 season.
