Wrestling falls 24-21 in close match to nationally-ranked Rutgers

Hampton, Va. – Campbell dropped its match Saturday morning to Rutgers 24-21. The Camels fell behind the Knights 17-0 before winning four of the final six bouts. CU falls to 8-11 on the season in dual matches. Rutgers, ranked 20th in the latest NWCA nationall poll, improves to 8-2 this season.

Nick Rex got the Camels on the scoreboard with a 9-5 decision win over Anthony Volpe. Ryan Krecker then pinned Daniel Seidenberg at 165 pounds to bring the Camels within 17-9.

After dropping bouts at 174 and 184 pounds, John Weakley picked up a forfeit win at 197 pounds. Joe Nolan then pinned Jesse Boyden in the heavyweight division in 1:28.

Campbell returns home to square off in a league matchup with Chattanooga on Friday evening at 7 p.m. The Camels enter with a 2-1 Southern Conference record.
