BUIES CREEK – The Campbell University wrestling team will travel to Raleigh on Saturday to compete in four dual matches in the N.C. State Duals at Reynolds Coliseum. The Fighting Camels will face Bloomsburg at 12 p.m., SIU-Edwardsville at 2 p.m., N.C. State at 4 p.m. and finish against George Mason at 6 p.m.
CU enters Saturday's matches at 5-6 overall in dual matches this season. The Camels faced SIU-Edwardsville earlier this season at the Hoosier Duals in Bloomington, Ind., coming away 21-10 victors. The team's four matches mean that it will wrestle the most dual matches in a single day during the season, having competed in three dual matches on two other occasions.
Head coach Joe Boardwine spoke about the intention of this challenging schedule. "What we're doing at N.C. State is to get us ready for the SoCon tournament and the national tournament in March. At the SoCon tournament, you're wrestling three, maybe four times in one day, so this should help us prepare for wrestling in March."
James Cook has posted a 12-3 individual mark at 174 pounds, including a 10-1 record in dual matches. The redshirt freshman from Madera, Calif. has two pins to his credit and two major decisions thus far. Redshirt senior John Weakley has recorded five pins while going 11-6 at 197 pounds.
