Spartanburg, S.C. – Mark Hartenstine was named the Southern Conference wrestler of the week on Wednesday for his performance in the week ending Dec. 13. Hartenstine is the second Camel to be honored this season with the SoCon weekly honor, after Nick Rex took the honor two weeks ago.
Hartenstine took a 15-0 tech fall win in the team's lone outing last week during a road victory at conference foe VMI. The Easton, Penn. native raced out to a quick start and maintained the pressure against the Keydets' David Yost. The 149-pounder completed amassed the tech fall in 3:32. His effort helped keep the Camels in the match early after the team dropped the match opener at 141 and would have to forfeit the following weight class.
The redshirt freshman moves to 8-3 individually on the season, having wrestled each of the 149-pound bouts for Campbell thus far.
"We are proud of Mark and the progress he has made this year," head coach Joe Boardwine said. "He has really been wrestling up to his potential these last three weeks and we expect great things from him for the rest of the season."
The Camels are back in action Jan. 1-2 when they travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. to participate in the Southern Scuffle.
