BUIES CREEK – Campbell will look to improve to 2-0 in the Southern Conference when the team visits Virginia Military Institute on Friday. The Camels come into the match 4-4 overall, 1-0 in the Southern Conference after defeating conference foe Davidson earlier this season at home.
VMI holds an 8-1 advantage in the all-time series, but the teams have only met twice since 1982. Campbell's one series win came in a 22-15 victory on Jan. 13, 2001, while VMI took a 29-6 decision the following season in the last match between the two opponents until this year.
"We are looking forward to this match Friday evening," head coach Joe Boardwine said. "The week off was beneficial for us to get some guys healed up and now we are focused on VMI as we continue to take one match at a time."
Several Fighting Camels have jumped out to quick individual starts this season. James Cook (Madera, Calif.) is 7-1 at 174 pounds, while Nick Rex (Lakeland, Fla.) and John Weakley (Cleveland, Ohio) are each 6-2 at 157 and 197 pounds, respectively.
"The month of November was about finding who our starters would be," said Boardwine. "Now we can focus on what they need to do individually to have a better performance."
