BUIES CREEK – Campbell opens the 2011-12 home wrestling schedule on Friday night, hosting Southern Conference foe Davidson College, as well as South Dakota State. Start time for the Davidson match is set for 5:15 p.m. inside the Pope Convocation Center.
Following the Camels' conference match against the Wildcats, Davidson and SDSU will face off against one another. Campbell will then wrestle the Jackrabbits beginning at approximately 8:00 p.m.
Campbell (1-2) enters Friday's dual matches competing for the first time since wrestling three opponents on Nov. 5. The Camels won the season opener over Anderson 38-6, before falling to nationally-ranked ACC squads Virginia and Virginia Tech. James Cook finished 3-0 on the day in the 174-pound weight class, while John Weakley was 2-1 at 197 pounds. CU is 23-6 all-time against Davidson, 0-1 all-time vs. South Dakota State.
Davidson (0-0) will be participating in its first dual match of the season after taking part in the Rat Rumble and NC State Open events. The Wildcats finished 5-13 last season, 0-5 in the Southern Conference. SDSU (0-0) will also be participating in its first dual team matches of the season. The Jackrabbits were 1-13-1 last season.
"We are excited about Friday night and looking forward to showing our home crowd the results from all the work we have put in," head coach Joe Boardwine said. "The Davidson match is really important for two reasons: it is our first Southern Conference match and it is also a regional rivalry."
"We want to thank Jason Liles for bringing his team out here; we're excited about having them here as it allows our guys to get a look at a team from a different region of the country. Our goal is to get two wins, so we'll find out who the better team is on Friday."
