Campbell wrestlers receive preseason recognition

BUIES CREEK - Two Campbell University wrestlers have received preseason recognition in wrestling publications this year. James Cook (freshman, 174-pound weight class) and Mark Hartenstine (freshman, 149-pound weight class) were named to the list of "Wrestlers to Watch in NCAA D-I in 2011" in The Open Mat magazine.

Hartenstine has also found his name in preseason rankings in two separate publications going into his freshman season for the Camels. The Wrestling Report lists his as the 29th best wrestler at his weight class in the nation, while The Open Mat ranks him 20th nationally.

"It's nice to see some of our young guys getting a little bit of national attention already in the preseason. It's good that others recognize the potential we see in our young team," head wrestling coach Joe Boardwine said.

"Even though it is good to see (the preseason recognition), we're definitely a lot more focused on what is actually happening in training right now than we are on any kind of rankings. We are focused on preparing our entire team for the opening of our season in November. Overall, we are off to a great start in the preseason; and people are working hard and improving."

The wrestling team will hold its Black and Orange match on Thursday, October 27th inside Pope Arena at 7 p.m. The Camels will then open the 2011 season at the Cavalier Duals in Charlottesville, Va. on Saturday, November 5th.
