BUIES CREEK, N.C. - After a claiming a pair of dual victories last weekend, the Campbell wrestling team returns to action Thursday when it travels to Davidson to take on the Wildcats in a 7 p.m. dual inside Belk Arena.
Campbell (3-16) topped Sacred Heart 33-9 at the East Regional Duals in Millersville, Pa., last Friday, before traveling to Franklin, Pa., where it bested Franklin & Marshall 33-15 in a separate dual. The Camels also lost a tight 26-21 decision to Millersville on the road trip.
Several Camels had very successful outings on Friday. Freshman Tanner Bidelspach picked up his first career pin in 6:46 at 125 pounds against Sacred Heart, and also earned an 11-1 major decision against Millersville, despite wrestling up a weight class at 133 pounds. Gabe Gardner won a pair of matches, defeating Sacred Heart's Andrew Polidore 8-2 at 133 pounds and F&M's Aaron Velasquez 13-4 in the 141-pound weight class.
Senior Jake Fose picked up a technical fall victory against Millersville and a 6-1 decision against F&M to cap an undefeated day at 157 pounds. John Merickel and Parker Burns also tallied perfect days for CU, with Merickel winning a pair of decisions and Burns registering two decisions and a major decision for the Camels.
Davidson (5-9, 0-3 SoCon) enters Thursday's bout after a 32-12 home loss to VMI on Friday.
Twin brothers Alex and Vitaly Radsky lead the Wildcats' efforts on the mat. Alex (133 pounds) has compiled a 22-7 mark this year, while Vitaly (141) owns a 16-3 individual record. Heavyweight Charlie Wolff is 16-7 this year for Davidson.
The Wildcats edged Campbell 23-21 in last year's meeting at Buies Creek. Fose and Merickel won major decisions, and Burns registered a pin for CU in the dual.
After Thursday's match, the Camels travel to Duke Feb. 17 for a 7 p.m. contest.
