Campbell Places Ninth at CAA Championships

LAWRENCEVILLE , N.J. – Andy Bricker and Lantz Nixon finished fourth in their respective weight classes to lead Campbell University to a ninth-place finish on Saturday at the Colonial Athletic Association Wrestling Championships.

With four champions and four runners-up, Hofstra University won its third consecutive CAA team title.

Rider University sophomore Dave Miller was named the Tournament Most Outstanding Wrestler, coming from the second seed to win the CAA 157 pound title. Miller won all four of his bouts, two by fall, including a pin over the top seed in the finals.

Tournament host Rider University placed second with two champions, a runner-up and two third place finishes, just ahead of third place Boston University in the 11-school field.

The 20 finalists along with five wild card selections will now advance to the NCAA National Championship Tournament, March 18-20, in St. Louis, Mo.

The five wildcard selections are: 125 Rob Rebmann of Drexel (third place), 133 Joe Cristaldi of Drexel (third place), 141 Joey Rivera of Boston (third place), 141 Rob Becker of George Mason (fourth place), and heavyweight Carmelo Marrero of Rider (third place).

The alternates include: 157 Rob Belville of Sacred Heart (third place), 149 Rayes Gonzales of Boston (third place) and 184 Adam Wright (third place) of Old Dominion.

Bricker, a senior, advanced to the semifinals of the 125-pound class, where he lost to second-seeded Jose Leon of Boston University by fall at 6:30. Bricker then dropped a 12-3 decision to Drexel's Rob Rebmann in the third-place match.

Nixon advanced to the 184-pound semifinal against eventual champion Nick Catone of Rider, but dropped a 3-1 decision. Nixon then fell to Old Dominion's Adam Wright by an 8-3 decision in the third-place bout.
