School post-season records fall on second day of NCAA East Regional Women's Golf Championship

STATE COLLEGE, PA.  – Michelle Koh shot a season-low 69 and Campbell set a school NCAA regional record team total with a two-over 290 Friday in the second round of the NCAA East Regional women's golf championship at the Penn State Blue Course.

The Camels jumped from 21st place into a tie for 10th in the 24-school field.  The top eight teams and two individuals not on the qualifying squads following Saturday's final round will advance to the NCAA Championship, May 22-25 at Franklin, Tenn.

South Carolina leads the event at six-over 582 (288-294), followed by Alabama (589), Florida (591), Texas A&M (592), Duke (595), Texas (596), Arizona (598) and Washington (599).  Arizona State enters the final round in 9th place (601), while Campbell and Tulane are tied for 10th (603), four strokes shy of qualifying for the national event.

Koh jumped int a tie for 13th place at 3-over 147.  Katerina Ruzickova of Texas A&M (67-73--140) holds a 3-stroke lead over South Carolina teammates Katie Burnett (72-71--143) and Justine Dreher (70-73--143) on the individual leader board.

Playing in the NCAA post-season for the 15th time since 1993, the Camels eclipsed the program's previous best 18-hole score of 297 set first in the 2005 East Regional and matched in the 2010 event.

Friday's round also bettered Campbell's previous team total (292) this year, set on Sept. 11, 2011 at the Golfweek Program Challenge.

A senior from Kuantan, Malaysia, Koh enjoyed a bogey-free round with three birdies to eclipse her previous season-best total of 71 she posted at the Palmetto Intercollegiate and equaled at the Big South Championship.

The output marked Koh's best 18-hole showing since she set a school record with a 5-under-par 66 on Oct. 25, 2010 at the Palmetto Intercollegiate.  Friday's round matched the 69 Campbell's Sharon O'Neill fired during the 2000 NCAA East Regional at The Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.

Koh's 36-hole total (78-69—147) stands as the third-lowest in school NCAA regional history behind O'Neill's 145 (76-69) in 2000 and Josefina Usandizaga's 146 (75-71) in 2004.

As a team, Campbell's 36-hole tally of 603 (313-290) is the second-lowest in 13 NCAA regional events behind only the 600 (297-303) the 2005 club produced on the par-70 University of Florida Golf Club.

Big South player of the year Kaylin Yost rebounded from a first-round 80 to shoot one-under-par 71 Friday on the par-72, 6253-yard Blue Course layout.  The sophomore from Pembroke Pines, Fla., made five birdies on the day, including four-straight from the 12th through 15th holes, and played her final nine holes (the front side) at even-par.

League freshman of the year Lisbeth Brooks carded a one-over 73 in her second NCAA round that included two birdies.  Brooke Bellomy followed Thursday's 83 with a second-round 77, while Teresa Urquizu slipped from an opening-round 73 to Friday's 9-over 81.

Heading into Saturday's final round of the 54-hole event, Campbell leads Augusta State (607) and Kent State (607) by one stroke and is two in front of Central Florida (608) and Wake Forest (608) in the 24-school event.
