Urquizu 17th, Camels 21st after first day of NCAA East Regional

STATE COLLEGE, PA.  – Teresa Urquizu is tied for 17th individually and Campbell sits 21st in the team standings following Thursday's first round of the NCAA East Regional women's golf championship.

South Carolina was the lone team in the 24-school field to shoot even par (288) and takes a four-stroke lead over Alabama (292) into Friday's second round.  Big South Conference champion Campbell shot 313 in blustery conditions on the par-72, 6253-yard Penn State Blue Course.

Urquizu made three birdies on the day and climbed to two-under-par before finishing at one-over 73.  Senior Michelle Koh shot 78 and is tied for 72nd place.  Kaylin Yost shot 80, Lisbeth Brooks 82 and Brooke Bellomy 83 for the Camels, who will start from the 10th tee at 8:25 in Friday's second round. 

Only five golfers in the 124-player field broke par, paced by Katerina Ruzickova of Texas A&M, who fired a five-under 67.  Juliet Vongphoumy of Maryland is second, one-stroke back at 68, while Justine Dreher of South Carolina shot 70.

The top eight teams and two individuals not on the qualifying squads will advance to the NCAA Championship, May 22-25 at Franklin, Tenn.
