Lisbeth Brooks named Big South women's golfer of the week
BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After producing her best finish of the season, Lisbeth Brooks of Campbell University has been named Choice Hotels Big South Conference women's golfer of the week. Brooks tied for 8th place in the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate, recording her best 54-hole total (72-75-74—221) of the year in the process.
A freshman from Waunakee, Wisc., Brooks is the fifth CU performer to win the weekly honor during the 2011-12 season. Brooke Bellomy (Sept. 30), Michelle Koh (Oct. 27), Teresa Urquizu (Nov. 3) and Kaylin Yost (Mar. 9, Mar. 15) have also garnered Big South recognition this year.
On the par-72, 6047-yard Eagle's Landing CC layout, Brooks topped four Camel golfers among the top 20 individuals and led Campbell to its ninth top-five team finish in 10 tournaments this year.
The performance marked Brooks' second top-10 individual showing of the season and lowered her stroke average to 76.04, the 4th-best number among all Big South Conference golfers.
Brooks shot a collegiate career-low 67 last fall at the Golfweek Program Challenge and shares low round of the year honors among all league golfers with Yost and Lauren Smith of Gardner-Webb.
Ranked 57th in the Mar. 27 Golfweek national ratings, Campbell has five golfers among the Big South's top-10 stroke average list. Yost (75.24) is first and Kaoh (75.64) second, followed by Brooks in fourth, Bellomy seventh (76.5) and Urquizu 10th (77.25).
Campbell carries the lowest stroke average of all league schools (301.04) into the Big South Championship, Apr. 9-11 at The Patriot GC in Ninety Six, S.C.
