DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – Kaylin Yost stands atop the individual leader board and Campbell is tied for second in the team standings after Friday's first round of the James Madison/Eagle Landing Invitational women's golf tournament.
A sophomore from Pembroke Pines, Fla., Yost played the back nine at six-under par, including birdies on her last three holes to shoot a collegiate career-low round of five-under 67.
After starting Friday's round two-over through five holes on the par-72, 6282-yard Eagle Landing layout, Yost had par on number six, then birdied the seventh hole to make the turn at one-over. She then birdied the par-five 10th, par-four 12th and par-three 13th holes.
Yost's round is the second-lowest in Campbell women's golf history, one stroke shy of the school-record 66 shot by Michelle Koh at the 2010 Palmetto Intercollegiate. She matched the 67 fired by Lisbeth Brooks on Sept. 12 at the Golfweek Program Challenge for the team's lowest round of the year.
Campbell shot plus-six 294 and is tied for second-place with East Carolina, 7 shots behind South Florida (287). Maryland (295) is fourth in the 18-school field.
Senior Michelle Koh birdied the 18th hole to finish her round at three-over 75 and tied for 26th. Brooks and Brooke Bellomy are tied for 37th place at plus-four 76. Maria Jose Benavides shot 79 and is tied for 63rd.
