Women's Golf in 2nd place at Palmetto Intercollegiate
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- Led by four individuals among the top 21, Campbell University stands in 2nd place after Sunday's first day of the Palmetto Intercollegiate women's golf tournament at Oak Point Golf Club.
With Sunday's second round suspended due to darkness, Campbell stands at 13-over-par, trailing UNC Greensboro by seven strokes in the 18-school field. Maryland and host College of Charleston are tied for third place at 19-over.
Campbell junior Teresa Urquizu is tied for six place at one-over-par through 35 holes. She shot an opening round 73 on the par-72, 5907-yard Oak Point layout that included an eagle on the par-5 fourth hold. The native of San Sebastian, Spain was even-par through 17 holes before darkness suspended play Sunday evening.
Senior Michelle Koh is tied for 10th place at three-over-par. The product of Kuantan, Malaysia fired an opening-round 75, then was even through 15 holes in the second round.
Freshman Lisbeth Brooks is tied for 13th place at four-over-par. She carded a 76 Sunday morning, and was even-par on the second-round through 15 holes.
Sophomore Kaylin Yost was tied for 2nd after an opening round 71 that included four birdies. When darkness fell Sunday evening, however, she stood in a tie for 21st place at five-over-par with one hole remaining to be played.
Freshman Johanne Svendsen is in 80th place in the 96-golfer field at 18-over par. After an opening round 84, she played her first 16 holes Sunday afternoon at 6-over.
Fanny Cnops of UNC Greensboro leads the event at two-under-par through 32 holes. She shot an opening-round 70, and stood 2-under after 15 holes of play Sunday evening.
Lourdes Lopez of Jacksonville State and Ana Lucia Martinez from UNCG are tied for second at one-under par.
The second round will resume at 8:45 a.m. Monday followed by the final round of the 54-hole event. Live scoring is available on-line at Golfstat.com.
