PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – Campbell shot an 8-over-par 292 and stands in fourth place on the team leader board after Sunday's first round of the Golfweek Program Challenge women's tournament at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club.
A balanced team effort Sunday was led by senior Michelle Koh and junior Teresa Urquizu, who were tied for ninth place at one-over-par 72. Freshman Brooke Bellomy and sophomore Kaylin Yost were tied for 19th at plus-three 74, while freshman Lisbeth Brooks stands in a tie for 41st place at seven-over 78.
East Carolina leads the 12-school event at one-under 283 on the par-71, 6003-yard Caledonia layout. James Madison and Texas State are tied for second at seven-over 291, one stroke ahead of Campbell (292). Jacksonville State (293) is fifth, followed by South Florida (298) and UNC Wilmington (299).
Lejan Lewthwaite of Texas State and Julia Standberg from East Carolina share the individual lead at minus-three 68 heading into Monday's second round of the 54-hole tournament.
Nicole Sakamoto of James Madison is third at two-under 69. JMU teammate Valentina Sanmiguel and Jacksonville State's Astrid Parsson were the only other players in the 60-golfer field to break par on Sunday at one-under 70.
