Lady Camels face N.C. Central Monday
BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After Campbell opened the Big South slate 2-0, the Lady Camels step out of conference for a trio of games this week beginning on Monday at North Carolina Central at 6 p.m.
Campbell (5-2, 2-0 Big South) hosts UVA-Wise on Wednesday at 7 p.m. before traveling to Elon on Friday at 7 p.m.

Last time out, sophomore guard RaeChaun Edwards (Spring Grove, Va.) registered a career-high 20 points in leading the Lady Camels to a 67-59 win over UNC Asheville. Contributing 15 and 11 points, respectively, were seniors Jessica Moore (Jacksboro, Tenn.) and Roslyn Presley (Petersburg, Va.).
Campbell hit 32 of its 41 free throws against the Bulldogs, attempting the most since a 32-of-44 performance against Asheville on Nov. 21, 2006.
The victory was the first for the Lady Camels this season when they secured less rebounds the opponent. The Bulldogs edged Campbell, 44-43, and had 18 offensive rebounds.
Junior guard Kiera Gaines (Mechanicsville, Va.) is the leading scorer for the Lady Camels with 13.1 points, while the most-consistent offensive player has been Presley, who has reached double figures in six of seven games.
Campbell has posted a +3.3 rebounding edge by grabbing 41.9 per game. Gaines has recorded team-best 8.4 rebounds, while James adds 7.1 per contest.
Both Gaines and Edwards have tallied 30+ assists through the first seven games, while Edwards has a team-high 14 steals.
In the all-time series that dates back to 1976, Campbell holds an 11-2 advantage. The two teams renewed the series in 2009 after a 29-year gap with the Lady Camels winning 79-63 in Durham, N.C.
A tight 67-61 victory at Gore Arena was recorded for Campbell on Education Day on Dec. 14, 2010 in front of an announced crowd of 3,096. The Lady Camels have won that past two meetings on the road, 59-41, and last year 67-51 at home.
North Carolina Central is 4-3 overall with victories over Presbyterian (55-44), UNC Asheville (76-65), Gardner-Webb (89-58) and Wofford (53-44). The Eagles have fallen to Coastal Carolina (55-66), South Florida (35-93) and South Carolina (27-79).
The leading scorer is Jessica Freeman with 14.4 points followed by Racquel Davis with 11.6 and Khyra Conerly with 10.3. Pulling down 9.4 rebounds per game is Davis, while the Eagles have averaged 41.3 as a team. Freeman paces the squad with 19 assists and 18 steals.
The Eagles have posted a .332 pct. overall and 310 pct. from beyond the arc. Head coach Vanessa Taylor is in her eighth season at the helm of N.C. Central.
The Lady Camels are back in action on Wednesday at Gore Arena/John W. Pope Convocation Center at 7 p.m. against UVA-Wise.
