Radford Clips Women’s Basketball 64-59

BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Radford's Da'Naria Erwin Spencer posted 18 second half points, including a decisive three with 12 seconds left to hand Campbell just its second home loss of the season 64-59 at Gilbert Craig Gore Arena.

Radford improves to 12-10 overall and 6-5 in conference play, while Campbell falls to 12-10 on the season and 5-6 in Big South play.

Campbell wrapped a 9-0 run around the half, building a 42-34 lead with 17:42 to go in the second when Amanda O'Neill found Jazmine Cooper in the paint for two.

Still facing an eight-point lead with 9:03 to play after another Cooper layup, Radford chipped away with five straight, taking advantage of three consecutive CU turnovers to slice the lead to three, 51-48, with 8:03 remaining.

After a 9-1 spurt, including those five-straight, capped by Erwin Spencer converting both tries from the line, RU knotted the game at 52-all with 5:31 on the clock.

With 4:41 remaining, O'Neill again spotted Cooper in the lane for a layup, giving the Lady Camels a 54-52 lead.

Ashley Buckhannon then answered for the Highlanders, burying a trey, her first of the half after nailing five in the first, putting Radford ahead 55-54 at the 3:21 mark. Buckhannon was 1-for-7 from the floor in the second before the three, including 0-of-4 from beyond the arc.

After being fouled on the next possession, O'Neill then made both free throw, giving Campbell back the lead, 56-55, with 2:54 remaining.

With a tie game at the 1:23 mark, Erwin Spencer hit another jumper, putting the Highlanders up a pair at 59-57.

After a Campbell turnover, Victoria Hamilton hit a pair of free throws, extending Radford's lead to four with 51 seconds to go.

On the other end, Kate Cloxton drove left for a layup, but was fouled, sending the senior to the line with 40 seconds to play, down four. Cloxton then hit both free throws, pulling Campbell within two.

Erwin Spencer then dribbled out the shot clock and hit a three with 12 seconds remaining, putting Radford out of reach, 64-59.

Erwin Spencer led all scorers with 24 points, while Buckhannan registered 21. The pair also combined for 11 assists. Victoria Hamilton added nine rebounds while Ayana Avery tallied eight points.

Jazmine Cooper and Tonisha Baker led Campbell with 14 points apiece, adding seven and three rebounds, respectively. Senior guard Amanda O'Neill also recorded 11 points and four assists, while Katelyn Bass notched 10 boards and eight points. Roslyn Presley posted six points and five rebounds off the bench.

In the first, Campbell and Radford exchanged leads 14 times, with the Highlanders hitting 8-of-14 from deep and the Lady Camels holding a 10-2 advantage in the paint. Campbell also held a 17-11 clip on the glass, taking a narrow 35-34 lead into the break after Kiera Gaines' layup. Ashley Buckhannon nailed 5-of-7 first half threes for 15 points.

Radford collected 26 points off 19 Campbell turnovers, the Lady Camels recorded 12 second chance points. Campbell converted 21-of-26 tries from the free throw line for an 80.8 percent clip, its second highest line of the season.

The Lady Camels will be back in action next Saturday, hosting High Point at 1 p.m.
