Women’s Basketball Falls at Liberty 90-61
LYNCHBURG, VA.-Devon Brown posted a game-high 25 points while Danika Dale added 15 to lead Liberty past Campbell 90-61 in Big South play Monday night in the Vines Center.
Liberty improves to 7-7 on the season and 2-1 in Big South play, while Campbell falls to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in conference games.
Brown hit 10-of-17 from the floor, adding five rebounds and three steals, while Dale tacked on five boards, five assists and four steals for the Flames. Avery Warley registered 11 points and eight rebounds with four blocks. Reagan Miller and LaKendra Washington gathered nine points apiece.
Campbell's three seniors combined for 43 of the team's 61 points, led by Kate Cloxton's 17. The guard hit five threes for the second time this season in the loss, adding eight assists. Forward Katelyn Bass posted 16 points for the second straight game, hitting 6-of-12 attempts, with six rebounds. Guard Amanda O'Neill tacked on 10 points with five assists in the loss.
Campbell came out of the gate with a 7-3 lead, and owned a 14-13 advantage after a Katelyn Bass layup with 13:58 on the clock. Liberty's 7-0 answer capped by Danika Dale's three gave the Flames a 20-14 lead at the 11:48 mark.
With the Flames holding a 25-16 lead, CU then hammered out eight straight of its own, paced by eight from Kate Cloxton on a pair of threes and a 10-footer, bringing the game to a 25-24 score with 7:24 to go in the half.
After three empty possessions for the Lady Camels, Liberty reeled off a 19-4 run from 7:24 to 0:51, taking a 44-28 lead. The Flames took a 44-30 lead into the half.
The Flames then knocked down 7-of-11 shots to kick off the second half, taking a 69-48 lead on a Terika Lunsford bucket.
Liberty led by as many as 30 in the second half taking an 86-56 lead with 4:57 remaining. The Flames shot 57.6 percent from the floor in the final frame with Brown and Dale collecting 12 points each.
The Flames owned a 48-14 advantage in the paint, adding 18 second chance points. Liberty also converted 21 Campbell turnovers into 20 points and recorded 14 fast break points. Liberty also owned a 45-27 advantage on the boards.
The Lady Camels will wrap up their three game road stretch next Saturday, Jan. 14 at High Point. Campbell will return home on Jan. 21, taking on Big South foe Charleston Southern.
