Women's Hoops Entertains Lipscomb On Monday

BUIES CREEK, N.C.- Campbell, after opening the conference season with a 56-43 loss to Belmont on Saturday, entertains Lipscomb on Monday evening at Carter Gym at 7 p.m. The Camels will be looking to snap a season-long four-game skid.

"Lipscomb is well-coached and scrappy," head coach Wanda Watkins said. "They are much more athletic team than they have been in the past. They are a strong defensive team that will be hungry for a conference win. It should be a good match-up."

Marlena Murphy is averaging 13.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game to lead the Camels (5-9, 0-1 A-Sun). Murphy's is also the conference leader in rebounding and ranks ninth in the NCAA. Fellow senior Maggie Rich is second on the team at 9.2 points an outing. Murphy scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the 56-43 loss to Belmont in the conference opener for both teams on Jan. 5. Junior Jessica Mack continued her steady play and tallied eight points and four rebounds. In her last seven games, Mack is averaging 6.6 points a game to up her season average to 5.4 points an outing.

Lipscomb (2-12, 0-1 A-Sun) fell to Gardner-Webb on Saturday to open its conference season. The Lady Bisons held a 12-point lead in the second half, but then went through a scoreless drought that allowed the Bulldogs to go on a 16-0 run to take the lead for good. Four LU players reached double figures led by senior Catie Wood's 16.

Junior Katie Rollins leads the Lady Bisons at 11.4 ppg, which is 15th in the conference. She is also the team's leading rebounder at 5.3 rebounds a game. LU has five players that are hitting 80 percent or better from the free-throw line led by Rollins, who is hitting at a 90 percent clip.

Overall, Lipscomb is a solid shooting team and rank third in free-throw percentage (.701) and fourth in three-pointer's made a game (5.07).

Campbell won both games over the Lady Bisons last year and now lead the all-time series 5-3 dating back to 2004. Rich led the CU attack in Buies Creek last season with 13 points and eight rebounds in the 72-56 victory. At Allen Arena in Nashville, Murphy totaled 17 points and four assists in a Campbell 80-68 win. The Camels are riding a three-game winning streak over the Lady Bisons entering this game.

The game can be heard live through a web broadcast on Campbell's website, GoCamels.com as Campbell broadcaster Clint Oftedahl calls the game.

After the Lipscomb game, the Camels continue conference play with the first A-Sun road trip against USC-Upstate on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 1 p.m.
