BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell's swim team (12-14, 10-8 CCSA) finishes the 2011-12 regular season and heads to UNC Wilmington (9-6) for the team's final tune-up before this season's CCSA Championship this weekend. The Camels will swim against the Seahawks at the Seahawk Natatorium in a meet scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4.
Campbell is coming in off a busy weekend last week. The Camels started the week and defeated North Carolina A&T by a 163-36 score in the team's final home meet of the season. CU then split with the six other teams at the CCSA Duals in a meet hosted by Davidson. Sophomore Kylie Warne had a strong individual couple of days for Campbell with an event win in the 100 breast (1:08.53) against North Carolina A&T plus a runner-up finish in the 500 free (5:11.58) and a third-place ranking in the 200 butterfly (2:11.95) at the CCSA Duals. Cheriesse Campbell also had a strong set of performances for Campbell in winning the 50 free (25.54) against the Aggies and a second place finish in the 1000 free (10:35.68) at the CCSA Duals. Fellow sophomore Charlotte Cornet also swam well for CU in winning the 200 free (1:58.86) against North Carolina A&T and finishing third in the 200 breast (2:29.84) at the CCSA Duals.
Warne, with her strong week of action last week, has now tied Cheriesse Campbell for the team lead in top-three finishes with 22 each. Cornet is right behind them with 19 individual finishes in the top-three.
The UNCW women defeated Wingate by a 154-108 score last weekend. Ten different Seahawks won events with C.J. Fiala winning both the 100 breast and the 50 free for UNCW
After this weekend the Camels will next compete at the CCSA Championships in Athens, Ga. from Feb. 16-18.
