BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Campbell's swimming team (8-7, 6-4 CCSA) defeated North Carolina A&T (178-25) and VMI (176-16) but fell to Gardner-Webb (96-109) in CCSA action from Boiling Springs, N.C. on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 5.
The Camels had 14 top-three finishes including six individual and relay wins on the day. Sophomore Kylie Warne won both the 400 IM (4:37.72) and the 500 free (5:16.71) to lead the squad. She also finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:10.90).
Fellow sophomore Charlotte Cornet also recorded a pair of top three finishes in placing second in the 200 IM (2:16.23) and the 200 breast (2:30.27). She was also part of the 400 medley relay squad along with freshman Sydney Postmus, junior Kaitlyn Tunstall and freshman Larissa Joassaint that finished second in their event (4:02.20). The CU relay team of senior Libby Sanderson, freshman Meredith Cooper, sophomore Kaitlyn Burnette and freshman Marissa Coughlin finished third in the same event (3:45.24).
Cheriesse Campbell continued her strong weekend and won the 200 free (1:57.55). Campbell was also part of CU's 400 relay team along with Postmus, Tunstall and Joassaint that won their event (3:40.38).
Joassaint earned an individual victory for Campbell in the 100 free (54.93). Postmus also recorded an individual win in the 50 free (25.21). Tunstall placed second in the 200 free (1:59.80) and Coughlin was the runner-up in the 50 free (26.07).
Next, Campbell's swimming program heads down the road to take on North Carolina State on Nov. 12 at 2 p.m.
