BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell's swim team (1-2) gets back in the pool for a mid-week meet against Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory, N.C. at the Shuford Physical Education Center Pool on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m.
Campbell defeated fellow Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association rival Radford (174-106) last weekend, but fell to both Marshall (102-186) and James Madison (62-236). The Camels were led in defeated by sophomore Cheriesse Campbell. The Sunrise, Fla. native finished as the runner-up in the 200 free (1:54.94) and the 500 free (5:10.10). Sophomore Kylie Warne also was the runner for CU in the 200 IM (2:12.32) and was the team's top finisher in the 1,000 free (10:44.92). Fellow sophomore Charlotte Cornet also had a strong opening meet for the Camels and finished third in the 100 (1:08.18) and the 200 breast (2:28.11).
Lenoir-Rhyne placed ninth at the 2011 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships. Senior Lindsay Atkins led the team and set school records in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 400 free. Sophomore Caroline Mills also performed well in setting school records in the 100 and 200 butterfly. The Bears started the program in 2007-08 and are coached by Paul Schiffel.
Next the CU swim team returns home to the Johnson Aquatic Center to host College of Charleston and Queens University on Oct. 15 at 2 p.m.
