BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell's swim team (10-9, 9-4 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association), after winning four of the team's six matches against CCSA competition at Davidson College last weekend, gets out back into conference action and takes on College of Charleston on Friday, Jan. 28, at 5 p.m. at the Stern Pool.
Freshman Kylie Warne led the Campbell effort at Davidson with a pair of third-place finishes in the 1,000 free and the 200 IM. Warne has now placed in the top-three of an individual event 18 times this season.
Freshman Cheriesse Campbell continued her outstanding season for Campbell and had CU's highest finish in the 500 free at Davidson. Campbell set the CU record in the 1,000 free in the team's tri-meet against Pfeiffer and Gardner-Webb earlier in the weekend on Jan. 21. The Sunrise, Fla. is the team's current record holder in five events (200 free, 500 free, 1,000 free, 1,650 free and 100 butterfly). Campbell has now placed in the top-three in 22 individual events on the year.
College of Charleston lost to UNC Wilmington by a 197-97 score on Jan. 15 in the team's last competition. The Cougars were led by Gracie Herlong, who won the 200 butterfly against the Seahawks. Other top finishes for the CofC include Sarah Boyle's win in the 100 butterfly and April Coyne runner-up finish in the 200 breaststroke.
Following the road meet this weekend, the Camels have one more tune-up meet against UNC Wilmington on Feb. 5 at 11 a.m. before the CCSA Championship from Feb. 17-20. in Athens, Ga.
