Swimming Has A Strong Meet At Davidson College
DAVIDSON, N.C. - Campbell's swimming team put together a strong
tune-up meet in Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association action on
Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Cannon Natatorium against five other CCSA
schools (Davidson, Howard, Georgia Southern & Liberty). The
Camels were able to defeat Howard 213-60, Liberty 164-95, North
Carolina A&T 221-27 and Radford 169-124. CU fell to Davidson
222-60 and Georgia Southern 215-79.
Freshman Kylie Warne led the Campbell efforts with a pair of top-three finishes. Warne finished third in the 1,000 free (10:47.27) and third in the 200 IM (2:14.20).
Fellow freshman Kaitlyn Burnette finished third in the 100 back (1:02.84).
Cheriesse Campbell, a freshman from Sunrise, Fla., continued her outstanding season and ranked second in the 500 free (5:12.75). The top-three finish was her 22nd of the season and third of the week.
Senior Ashlyn Stumpf finished just out of the leaders and placed fourth in the 50 free (25.05)
Both Campbell relay teams represented themselves well. The 400 free relay team of Cheriesse Campbell, Stumpf, sophomore Kaitlyn Tunstall and Warne finished fourth (3:43.03). The 200 medley relay team of Burnette, freshman Charlotte Cornet, freshman Virginia Dailey and Stumpf also finished fourth in their event (1:54.71).
The Camels will next return to the pool and travel to Charleston, S.C. to take on College of Charleston on Friday, Jan. 28, at 5 p.m.
