Swimming Defeats North Carolina A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Campbell's swimming team had a strong overall performance in winning all 11 races in the team's dual meet against North Carolina A&T on Friday, Jan. 14. The Camels won all 11 events and scored 167 points in the meet.

Three different Campbell swimmers picked up a pair of individual event wins throughout the competition. Sophomore Kaitlyn Tunstall won the 200 IM (2:18.89) and the 100 butterfly (1:01.07). Freshman Charlotte Cornet picked up wins in the 200 free (2:02.33) and the 100 back (1:05.04). Fellow freshman Kylie Warne was the victor in the 50 free (26.07) and the 100 breast (1:10.57).

Other event wins include freshman Maggie Pogue in the 1000 free (11:39.69), senior Ashlyn Stumpf in the 100 free (54.89) and freshman Kaitlyn Burnette in the 500 free (5:35.92).

The CU relay team of junior Cameron Gorse, Stumpf, freshman Cheriesse Campbell and Pogue won the 200 free in a time of 1:43.95.

The Campbell relay team of Campbell, Warne, freshman Virginia Dailey and sophomore Michelle Key took home the crown in the 400 relay (1:58.24).

The Camels picked up a total of 28 top-three finishes throughout the competition.

CU now returns home to host Pfeiffer and Gardner-Webb on Friday, Jan. 21, starting at 4 p.m. at the Johnson Aquatic Center.
